Fit India Movement is a nation-wide campaign in India to encourage people to remain healthy and fit by including physical activities and sports in their daily lives. This campaign was launched by the government in New Delhi on 29 August 2019, which is National Sports Day, to inspire people to stay fit and healthy.
Physical fitness is an integral part of Don Bosco School’s co-curricular education. The school constantly encourages students to be actively involved in a wide range of sports like football, volleyball, throwball and athletics, while physical education, yoga, karate and mass drill are included in all our students’ timetable.
FIT INDIA SCHOOL WEEK AT DON BOSCO SCHOOL
During the 2nd and 3rd week of November, to highlight the importance of the Fit India Movement, Don Bosco School organized a number of activities for students to emphasize on physical and mental fitness. A variety of individual and team sports events, creative writing and a Declamation Contest were organized in conjunction with Children’s Day celebrations.
In the third week of November, assembly time was used to create awareness about the importance of physical fitness. The health benefits of the different physical education and sports opportunities offered at Don Bosco School such as athletics, Karate, Yoga, Scouts and Guides was emphasized upon. Students were also taught stretching exercises and watched a demonstration of Karate during the assembly.
In addition, dance and elocution are also a major part of the school assembly to highlight physical and mental fitness respectively.
Some of our teachers have been teaching traditional Indian games to our students, integrating it with their academic curriculum. Its very encouraging to see our students play Kabadi during their break time. Students also have ready access to skipping ropes during their recess time.
The “Fitness Pledge” is:
“I promise to myself that I will devote time for physical activity and sports every day and I will encourage my family members and neighbours to be physically fit and make India a fit nation.”
We hope that the Fit India Movement activities at Don Bosco School will continue to inspire students, staff and parents to stay fit and healthy.
